I'm back from my week of bear hunting. I was in the woods for 9 days. It is hard to come back to buildings and traffic. I didn't get anything, but it is nice to be off of work and don't have any schedule except you better be in the woods a couple hours before dark.
I saw one on opening day but he was only 150-175. probably around 200 live weight and I was looking for something a little bigger. you can't shoot the big one if you keep shooting the little ones...atleast that is what I tell myself
We had 6 guys at camp and 5 of us saw bears. some more than others. It was a weird year. People every where and I was sitting in my stand and it was over 90 degrees. I think the people bothered the bears the most. They weren't that hungry and it picked up at the end of the week after most people left.
I put my trail cameras out on Sunday on a part of the land I deer hunt on that I haven't ever had a camera on yet. Hopefully they show me some good stuff. Bow season start here on Saturday, but I may try to sneak up north again and go after the bears again....that season goes into October. I'll see what the girlfriend has to say about that.

Manuman, too bad about the shot on the bear. I didn't realize there where that many down there. Do you need a tag for them or are they like coyotes around here?....open all year and no tags needed.

The DNR estimates that we have 2000 bears in the state of Georgia. You get a limit of 1 bear with your big game license, and the season goes all through archery,( 4 to 5 weeks)1 week of ML, and then the first month of gun season. I have taken 2 so far, but I see them pretty often--especially if the estimated population is correct. They have to be reported to the game warden, and he tags them, and goes immediately to the spot where it was taken to investigate the scene. No baiting of any kind, and no dogs.I am quite anexception where I live ---2 bears in 3 yearsand both legal!
The game warden told me last time that 80% of all bears taken in my county are illegal! That is why they are so strict.

thanx for the heads up Matt. id say they still got a few bugs to work out
i still think its extra sluggish. they need to beef things up before i get my first bow kill. i might single handedly crash HNI with all my pics

Going to do a little scouting this afternoon. I am concerned about the influence of the poachers. I sat a stand that I always see deer from ,twice, and not even a doe. It's a little frustrating right now.

Yes, 2 different game wardens--1 a corporal and another a sargent. I went back the next day, and the deer was completely gone. I don't know if it was animals, the land owner--whom I also called---or if the wardens got it for evidence. There was a beer can, and a crumpled pack of cigarrettes right next to teh deer, whichI would assume held fingerprints if they were going torealy investigate it that much. No one has called me back, so I don't know what, if anything is being done.
