Congrats on the doe! Thats great. I always like to get a doe first and then I can concentrate on getting a buck.

Still waiting on Oct. 6th. I've seen a monster and hopefully I can connect on this guy.

Guys i came close saturday afternoon.Had a nice buck that came out right at dark. It was very hot and humid and i was getting ready to climb down when i heard something comming up behind me? With out daubt i knew it was a deer but i could not hardly see anything[:'(]he came within 15yrds of my tree i could hearhim eating and popping acorns in his mouth he was that close! But i just could not make out much untill he walked by a little opening that a little light was getting threwwhen i seen his head as he walked by i could tell he was a nice buck but that was about all he then made his way around me and then left.
I just could not see good enough to take a shot and i wont unless i know i can make it.
But i did take my seacond doe of the season from another area saturday morning around 8:20am she ran about 40yrds.
Is anyone else hunting and seeing anything? Good luck men! terry

Good call not taking a shot. He'll be back, also congrats on the SECOND doe. Still waiting for the season to begin here. Starts Oct 6th. I took the 8th thru 11th off, I plan on hunting hard those 4 days. Wife and I will be staying in the camper, it'll be nice to have a warm body next to me for those chilly nights...if I could only figure out how to have her get up earlier than me and have my breakfast ready....HHHmmmmm

Good luck everyone and be safe!

Congrats on the Does!!! Sounds like everyone is either off to a good start or waiting just like me for the season to open.

Got to go out of town the whole first week but will be in the stand on the weekend. Still alot of crop in the field right now and the buck sightings are slim.

Good Luck!!!

Finally got out for a couple hours friday morning. saw about 13,all does except for one young 6 ptr. about 10 yards away. Watched him eat acorns for an hour. He'll be nice in a year or two. One tree was loaded with acorns. I think i'll be back there monday. Just watched the does to see what they normally did. Tucked away some good info. Hope everyone is enjoying the season.Sorry ducsauce, i guess your still waiting your season to start :(. Good Luck everyone.

Went out today and got my permits to hunt the Army base. I usually do well there...lots of deer. They've uped the bag limit to 2 does per day or 1 buck 1 doe per day. BUT...a two buck per year limit, of which, one antler must be 4 pts or better They started the antler restriction last year. Anywho, I was doing some scouting while I was there and when walking back to the Jeep, I was coming up to a Sawtooth Oak plantation. It sounded like hail with all the acorns falling. I spotted movement and glassed a doe about 40yds away. Then started hearing leaves rustling to my right, and there he was at 10yds a georgeous 8 pt, that I would guess to be in the 130 range. They couldn't hear me cause all the crunching on acorns. I had a perfect quartering away shot....oh yeah, Virginia's season doesn't open til Saturday! tick tick tick...

RE: 37-OFFICIAL TEAM 37 THREAD

Ok Guys...just got back from a 3 day trip. First morning saw major fog, could barely see the ground from my treestand let alone a deer. That evening I hunted over a stand of Sawtooth Oaks...spewing acorns. One of the first trees in our area that drop and the deer vacuum them up. Anyway, that evening I saw 13 deer including 2 eight points, a 6, a 5 and a 3. One of the 8's was one I saw last week when scouting. Here's the bad news, I took a shot at the other 8 AND MISSED!!!! Shot over him. I had previously ranged the exact spot where he stood at 27.5 yards and figured if I had a shot there I would place my 30yd pin at the bottom of the chest. Hunted there the next morning saw 5 does, that evening 2 does, next morning and evening ZERO deer. I guess I ruined my welcome for that area, or this mid 90 degree Virginia weather had something to do with it. I'll let it cool and try it again next week.

For the past 3 years I've missed the first deer of the season and all of them were 8 points. I should be good to go for the remainder of the season.

I'll probably get out again Tuesday.....Anybody anything?

Good thing you got your miss out of the way. I'll be going out Saturday evening....Going to try a new spot.....Sounds like you seen more deer than I see in a month, good luck on the next one.

RE: 37-OFFICIAL TEAM 37 THREAD

No joke...I've only seen 1 deer in the woods thus far and that was a doe. I don't know what the deal is. At least the weather cooled down a bit. Went this morning and saved a cat's life. Two coyotes had it treed and I walked in the middle of it. Didn't know it until daylight when I saw both of the yotes. Couldn't get a shot on them.

UFunny:
Sorry to hear about the miss man. Look at the bright side...hes not injured and may give you a second chance.

Going to be hunting all day tomorrow, Saturday morning, and all of next week. Im on vacation.

Good luck fellas!

Gloucester, about 30 minute north of Yorktown. The property near Goshen is 1500 acres that borders the Boy Scout Camp. BTW, Boy Scout Camp is a really good area to hunt (about 5000 acres), you can get a permit, but I don't know how to get it.

Nice looking Doe buddy! Good shot to.
Well guys i sead that if a buck come along that looked like he may score around a hundred inch`s or so that i would do my best to take him for the team. We can take two bucks here in Ga, So?
Sunday morning i got my chance, After watching over 10 deer feedaround at 10:30am i had buck come into range at about 30yrds,
"I made a piss poor shot" which i will tell about later but after waiting for about 5 hr before trying to track him,
I found him about 80 yrds from where i made the shot.
He is not all that big but not small ether?
He is a 8pt that should score around 100 inch`s or so.
Maby this will break the ice for the team,
I will post pic and score in the next couple of days, Good luck and good hunting! rta47...Terry

Thanks team! You guys are great,
If i scored him right i think i did:eek:I was so tired last night
He is not all that big but hey were on the board anyways.
My only hope is that each and every team member on this team can score!
Back in the first contest 2004-2005 we one with not booners but just ave, bucks? Some scored around 40 or so andone that scored around 140
It is not the biggest buck that always wins. Its a team effort! thats what wins evey time,
Good luck again guys Now go get-um!!rta47..terry

Good shootin guys, its been very slow for me. Gun season started last weekend. We still hunted with the bows and Redmangold shot a nice buck, but must have been a gut shot. We waited 4 hours and nothing, just a little blood. Never even found a spot where it might have laid down.

Well 2 more weeks till my Il. trip, can't hardley wait. Time to hunt some GIANTS.

Good Luck out there, Brian

Hot and dry, by the time I get to my stand I'm soaked with sweat. I'll be glad when the weather get seasonal here in Va.

I was able to get out for an evening hunt yesterday, acorns falling everywhere. Was winded by something that didn't care for my eau de Mark sweat scent. That thing snorted to the next county. That was the excitement for the evening. My next chance to get out will be Tuesday. I'm taking Nov 10th to 17th off for the mountain ML season, plan to use by bow mostly. Last year the rut was peaking around the 12th.
