RE: (20) Official Team "XX" Thread
Hey guys,
As for the poll hanging above our heads, I can delete it, but ya know I thought it would be good motivation for us XX'ers .... :D:D:D Ok to last nights hunt. Got in the blind at 3 pm. Gets dark at 8. A big storm blew in at 4:30 pm and I got drenched for 2 hours then on and off till almost dark. I toughed it out and didn't move a muscle in 45 degree wind blowing pouring rain. What a way to get the 2006 season off to a start. I just prayed it would clear off before dark. At 7:20 it stopped raining. I kept warm by doing isometrics but I couldnt stop shivering, I just had a feeling the big boy might get up out of his bed and come out to feed at dark. 7:25, I hear three distinct soft grunts about 50 yards to my east but I can't see that far since its so brushy. I wait and wait as light fades. With 10 minutes left of shooting light I hear deer moving down the ridge I am set up on about 30-40 yards in the brush to the east again. I peak around the big brushy willow bush I am hiding in and see what looked to me like a huge heavy racked frame with velvet hanging off. At first I think its a big nontypical. Then I realize its velvet. It sways through the brush about 40 yards from me and heads down the hill into the timber. Thats all I see. No body, just a rack. All gets silent then dark, I slip out to my pickup a mile away frozen shivering but happy I toughed it out till dark. I was close very close to a big buck, not sure if it was the ole gray buck. I will back after them tomorrow. I can't today I have to help my wife with our home, texturing and painting... My brother will be here tomorrow ( I am off work) for 4 straight days of hard core whitetail hunting! Peace out brothers of the XX... Best way to deal with all the SMACK isputsome bucks down fellas. Ilove it! Troy |

Troy - Good luck this weekend to you and your bro. Those groundblinds do a nice job in letting you stay put during a heavy downpour, but when the rain is coming in sideways, nothing can stop it. If you were able to make it out of there undetected, that definitelybodes well for your next evening trip. The full foliage and wet ground help make for a slick exit.
...and don't get any paint on the carpets. Rybo - have you been to that new bar/restaurant in Station Square called Buckheads? I guess it's chock full of dead animals, and they have really good dinner/drink specials. My buddy keeps nagging us to go down there one night, he says it's great. Mike - don't sweat it about the prints - I'll wait for the one of you, Ryan, Pat and Troystanding behind a big 6x6, and I'll take one of those. Dave - be sure to post some of those game cam pics. Deer: This is your 30-day notice. Season opens 9/30, be advised. |

Okay, time to remove the poll, that's shed for the acceptance...I wanted you to see it...sounds like a great hunt and hey, I can't be out there yet so we're living through you right now...
BUT, I think your eyes deceived you, what you saw was a figment of your imagination from the want you guys have to score again. If I were you, ;) I'd find a new spot. :D |

Although if I remember correctly therewere quite a few other things I was looking at besides the racks on the walls. :D[8D]:D Troy - all along, I had this mental image of you sitting all cozylike in a zipped-tight groundblind, shielded from the elements. I didn't know you were going Rambo on us. I bet you were quite damp when you got back to the truck. OUch. I like it when the water actually starts dribbling down inside of the Alpha Burlys, and a mini-lake forms in the toes. It's always a nice, squishy, clammy feeling, and makes for a fun walk. What a way to kick off the season. |
