Well Boys I'm back from the weekend trip (got back monday eve). Saw probably 400 elk and 50 or more bulls. I had 5 bulls at about 80 yds but gotta cut that distance in half at least. My partner Charles (elkinmtcwb) had a couple of opportunities at 300'' class bulls at close range but passed---he's looking for something really big. I won't be quite as selective. We saw lots of muley bucks on the way there and a couple of nice whitetails and several groups of antelope. Hopefully when we go back for two weeks on Fri. we'll get to sling a few arrows. These elk we're hunting are extremely pressured and educated. they are almost impossible to call and either have to be stalked (low percentage) or intercepted. we're using some tripod stands but also hunting a lot from the ground. We hiked in a couple of miles and slept in our clothes our last night and found a real honey hole ( that is... a place where the elk (lots of elk) were acting naturally and feedingduring a couple of hours of daylight on both ends of the day). We're goin back there and hopefully they will still have been relatively undisturbed.

It's amazing how 80% of the huntersdown there so far have been total slackers. They come in a half hour after daylight, walk right through open fields where the elk are feeding, try tochase the elk. Nuts. I mean totally, totally nuts. You guys would not believe it. I wish you could see it. Most have been acting like elk drivers, not hunters. Charles uses this fact successfullyby hunting a lot of escape routes and he has killed a number of them. I am still an elknovice, but at least have good "hunting sense". We slept with the elk 2 out of 4 nights we were there, which was so cool as they bugled and bugled all night long. to be continued.

Hope everyone is doing well.
Chad

Beautiful deer and mount, Congrats. That would be a nice edition to our team's score card.
I have some more pics of good deer that I just got yesterday. I'll post them when I get a chance.

congratulations CG. That was a great story. were many bugling, cause they sure have been up in the breaks until the get messed with by hunters, then they bugle about 10% as much. Again congratulation. This is my second year Elk hunting and first with a bow, so I'll probably be shakin' so hard I'll shoot myself

Great story, CG. I can't imagine shooting something that large.
Here's 2 more bucks I got on film. They just keep popping up this year. Hopefully they'll KEEP popping up come archery season. We have some REALLY good spots this year. I just set mt camera up on another spot we might try. There was a big buck in that spot last year and he wasn't taken.

Check out the big guy in the background. Is the right beam of the front buck look wierd? Doesn't it look like it's coming out below his ear.

This might be the same buck I have on film July 3, but its hard to tell.

Here's a picture from July 3

I can't wait for the season to start. 22 more days!!!!

Well yesterday was my opener. At first light a big doe came in. Had a braodside shot at about 7 yards, just as i was about to draw she spooked and ran about 10 yards behind me so i turned and shot and hit a limb that was hangin down right in front of her. I never thought of trimming there because it was almost directly behind me. I need to shoot a doe before i shoot a buck so hopefully next week i can get my doe.
