I'm going to try to get out on Saturday morning. My buddies are coming back and I think we may all head out together, and do a little bowhunting. It's supposed to frost Saturday morning so hopefully the big boys will start moving. The more I think about it, the more anxious I get. Seems like I've been driving a ton lately, but what's another 6 hour round trip to go hunting, going to hurt... Good luck to you guys, hopefully we can start putting some numbers on the board.

They're calling for heavy rain tomorrow slacking off in the afternoon. I'm still planning on going out but don't have high hopes of seeing much. Thanks to TD Tammy. [:'(]

Well, I went out over the weekend. Saw between 10-20 doe's every sit, but no bucks. They must be hung up in a bachelor group somewhere. I guess I'll have to just give them some more time until the rut. Then they should be making some appearances. My buddy I was hunting with arrowed a big doe for the freezer, also.

Saw 4 does and a spike, and one racoon. I was going to arrow a doe if I saw one in the evening and didn't see a single one. I may set up a blind in my backyard tonight and shoot one under the chestnuts so I can fill my freezer. The big eight came within bowshot of my Dad but wouldn't present an unobstructed shot for him. I'm glad he had the patience to not try and chance a shot. He said he had him in front of his stand for about 30 minutes but it was always under some undergrowth trees. Rain off and on this week and business trip this weekend probably means I won't be contributing this week.

I blew it! I went out last night and was set up the hill above my farm. At 6:50 I heard a deer uphill and to my right. I see a body and it walks through an opening 60 yards away and back into a thicker area. I get a quick glimpse of antlers and I'm pretty sure I saw some G2 and G3 of decent size. It could be the eight I have a picture of. It's heading down hill and I try a grunt call to see if I can get him to turn. I THOUGHT I heard him continue downhill. I made a slight movement and he explodes out of the thicker area 45 yards away and bounds uphill. No snort and he wasn't downwind so he may not have ID'ed me but he certainly didn't take any chances. I'm moving my stand further uphill and getting a little higher this weekend.

On a plus side I did get my first kill yesterday! A nice copperhead snake! On my way up to the stand I spotted him laying out and I cut him in half with my turkey broadhead (a thunderhead 125 with a fender washer behind it). No picture though, sorry.

Moved stand uphill and hung it so that the base of the stand was at the end of my 25' pullup rope. I've got some good screening limbs around and in front of me (until the leaves drop). Wouldn't you know that the day I go up real high it blows like a tropical storm? Swayed in the treetops for hours and only saw one squirrel. First day pulling a goose egg. Oh well it was bound to happen eventually. Anyone else having any luck?
