Was ita buckthat you had on caught on your game cams?? Wished it had been you too. Would look good added to your collection. Good luck with hunting.

Tim
Actually TJF,
I have not seen this buck before. He was a non typical main frame 10 with 2 decent kickers. Cool looking rack. I am still looking for a a different 10. I actually only hunted his area once thus fardue to improper wind. Took a doe the other day for the freezer and herd control. That first deer of the season is always nice to shake the rust off.;)

Passed up another small buck on Sat evening, this one was a small 6 point. That was the 11th buck I have seen in the first 2 weeks of the season, hopefully one of these times it will be one of the big boys I have seen in the area that comes by. Anyone else seeing any deer?

RE: Official Team Elite (8) Thread

I am seeing several. Had two 6 pointers sparring under my stand. It's cool to have a front row seat at 3 yards. I could have shot both with the same arrow 10 different times. Tons of does and just waiting for cold front to come through thisWednesday night so Thursday morning I will be hugging a tree waiting. Temps near freezing for lows so it should get them moving.

Sounds like the deer are moving pretty good so far. I've still got 11 days and counting. Good Luck and be safe.

Temps are dropping below freezing and activity is happening. I have all of next week to hunt and hope to sling an arrow. Come on guys, we got to make it happen, we have a title to defend. Good luck. ;)

I could have shot two 8 pointers opening night, but elected to pass on them.. I want to contribute something a little bigger. One had very short browtines, and the other had five points on his right, and his main beam was cracked off right in front of the G3 on his left..

I'm working hard at it though, been out everyday, Rain snow or shine.. or thunder.. :)

I passed up a 14in wide 6 pointer on opening day here in VA. I'm going out thisafternoon in the light rain to see if I can stick one of the big boys that we have been seeing around the farms. Good luck and goog hunting.

You boys are working hard! I haven't even been out yet due to time and 87 degree weather here.[:@]

This weekend is it though - it's going to be high 58, low 36....ooooohhhhh that's nice bow hunting right there. I'll be out as much as possible this weekend.

Cooler temps have hit here as of this morning.:) Not sure I am going out this evening, depends on the wind direction because I want to hang a stand in one specific area between a bedding area and a bean field hoping to catch a nice buck near where I saw him a few weeks ago. Shame is my corn fields in my favorite area are all picked out! The farmer always left these fields for last............until this year.:( The good news is there seems to be a great mast crop! Good luck to all.

I still have not been out yet. I have plans for this week. However, last week I tweaked my rest so now I need to tune in my bow this weekend. I'm just so busy launching my new company. I do promise to put a buck on the board bigger then last year. I'm not so sure I'll pass up a decent buck waiting for my dream buck do to the time I have available in the woods this year. Who knows, I'm always talking myself out of shooting a darn deer for one reason or another.

Went out last night in front of this rain front that we are getting now, in hopes that they would be moving. I only saw one doe and my shot nicked a branck and went harmlessly under her belly. My buddy was hunting my oak stand and he said that at last light the bruiser came by about 35 yards and never presented a shot, He said the he had a rack that is,as he put it, "just enormous". Guess where I'll be this weekend and Monday.

RE: Official Team Elite (8) Thread

Sounds good to me. I'll be out this weekend, although the wind direction is really going to give me a challenge. We are supposed to have NE winds at 10-15mph, which completly blows seeing as my stand is set up for a NW to W, even SW or E wind... ANYTHING but a NE wind. That's exactly the direction they most often come in from. I'm thinking one of two things... still hunt a different section of the property, or count on the strong winds carrying my scent over their noses. My stand this year is at least 22'. Not sure what to do. The wind is either with you or against you.

BTW fellas, let's all pitch in and abide by the rules - let's say we allgrab thesmaller logo?

Going out at the end of the week. Don't know what to expect but I'm praying the idiots from last year lost access to the field next door because the houses are finished. Eitherway I may pull and all dayer on Friday because it may be my last day to hunt until next month.

I hear ya, fieldmouse. I tried my hardest to get out this past weekend but wound up too busy with family stuff and winterising mowers and whatnot. Besides, it was almost 70. Way too warm for me still.

This coming weekend is calling for rain, so who knows when I can get out. Kind of a frustarting season so far though.

I've got the next 6 weeks off guys to do some serious hunting. Temps are freezing every night and seeing a lot of dinks, some respectable ones but not within range. Cool weather is starting to get the big boys moving as I can hear the game pretty easily with all the leaves on the ground, kinda like walking on corn flakes. There is some really good bucks in this area and i'm getting to the point where I can smell the blood. Good luck guys.

Well guys, Good news and Bad news!

The bad news is that the idiots are back in the field next to my honey hole. I didn't see them personally but all the signs are there. The property owner has posted signs. All I saw tonight was 3 dozen deer with the biggist one being a spike who just lost his velvet. My friend didn't see a single deer. I saw my herd because I suspected that they where back and their travel patterns confirmed it. Oh well, I will hunt that spot during the rut. I know the big boys are there but traveling incognito.

The good news is that my friend saw 4 140 class 8's in his back yard the other evening so I went there this morning because I knew the area. They wern't there this morning. I saw dozens of deer most does and bambies. A few small bucks with one 6 or 8 point basket rack.Though I saw a lot of deer, I was on the wrong side of his little half acre lot. I'm pretty sure no big boys slipped by me. Thet just weren't there. I'm going back tomorrow and going to be on the right side and hopefully a big guy will come through in the morning. He sees some big deer quite reqularly, but there has been a 170 that shows himself once a year.

On the awesome news side, it felt great this morning hearing people get in their cars going to work and I'm in a tree. It was awesome hearing the garbage truck on the lane and I'm in a tree. It was awesome hearing kids playing basketball and I'm in a tree. This afternoon it was awesome 30'+ with deer all round knowing there was no way I would get a shot at a big boy or a challenge in itself if he would have shown his face for 45 mins. I was sure thats how my luck would have played out today. Life is good.

Good luck team season is still very young and we can pull this off again this year.

Saw a 140 class 11 point today. Of course I was not hunting though.:(But he was not far from one of my stands and he was making ground I believe the bucks are now in search of the does. The pre rut is still a couple of weeks away here but this was the first mature buck I saw making ground during daylight hours in the open. And I saw him twice a few hundred yards away within 45 minutes. I can't wait for this weekend.:D

Way to go Tribal. I just showed your sig to my wife. She asks, "Wow too bad he's not on your team." I said, "Glad he is". :D

Sorry guys, family and job have me bound and I have not even been out once this season. I did manage to find time to hang another stand with my son this weekend. Good news is - signs of the rut are showing up in my woods with a fresh scrape - right under my stand! Can't be a bad thing.

Been hunting hard these past few days guys and the moon hasn't been cooperating as most of the activeity I've been seeing is in the late mornings and early evenings around 4:00. Saw a lot of deer last evening but nothing descent. The other night while walking in on a logging road at about 2:00 a nice buck was bedded down as I walked by and it just lowered its head and I acted like I didn't see him and kept walking. I tried to slip around but it slipped on out.It wasn'ttoo far from one of my stands. Some areas I been hunting is so thick most of my shots are no further than 20 yrds. Wind ain't cooperating either. I'm taking this week off from huntingand mend and relocate some stands. Found a good area in a bottom of a revene with a lot of deer signs and activity but enroute there is heavy griz activiety also. I don't like thinking about that going in before dark or coming out after dark-thirty.I was stalking along the edge of this pond for elk as I could smell them and knew they weren't far and thenI startled a cow and calf moose whilealongthis pondand we saw each other at the same time and the water just exploded arounded me, I about sheet. I'm in some good areas and I'm sure the quality in what I am seeing is going to get better. Some times elk hunting gets in my way of deer hunting and whitetail/mulie hunting get in the way of my elk hunting. I'm sure that maybe I'll find a stupid one. Good lucks guys.Lets geterdone.

Either way, Bobby, you sound like you're having a blast with all the critters out there under the big sky. My aunt and uncle used to live in Hall, Montana. Their drive way was 1.5 miles long. Talk about some country, whew.

I'm finally going to get out this weekend. Looks like I'll only get a morning hunt in tomorrow as it's supposed to rain for a few days starting tomorrow afternoon.[:'(]

Oh well. The rut is just starting to take shape and in a couple weeks, it should be pretty nuts out there.

What's going on with the rest of you guys?

Well things are starting to look pretty good! I hunted last sunday morning and sawa doe out about50yrds from meeat for more than an hour in one spot? About 8:30 I had 2 bucks pop up out of no where? One was an 8pt and the other was a six nether was very big although the 8 would have scored (imo) About 100inch`s I would have taken him if he would have gave me a shot but they walked into a thicket near by and I never saw them again? I got down from my stand at about 10:30 and as I was walking out I found some very nice size rubs that where not there last week 20yrds from my stand;)I could not see them before daylight when I walked into my stand. There is also 2 large scraps near by. I have begain to see much more sign than what I have been seeing. I know there are some good bucks here. I have seen them! But I will not hold out to long for a bigboy. I will try to take the first ave, buck I see just to get us on the board. I am aloud 2 bucks here so I`ll leave the big one`s up to you guys to take;)Hopefuly It will not be much longer untill I have one within range.. Good luck guys..rta47

I took a few days off from bow hunting for our 3 day early ML season. I was lucky enough to kill a nice 9pt, that wont help us much but I will be back in the woods with the bow this week. A lotof goodsign is starting to pop up bucks are really starting to work the scrapes, nows the time to add a couple nice ones to the scoreboard.

Shouldn't be long now..

The rain held off this weekend and I was able to get in some seat time in the woods. Saturday I hunted pretty hard - morning and night and saw nothing. Sunday am, nothing, but Sunday night - wow what a hunt, not successful, but fun. The rut seems to be cranking up good now. There are 3 fresh scrapes in the area, one being at the base of my tree :D. I got back to my stand a little late and had to wade through the deer to get there. I thought the night was going to be a bust after spooking the deer from under my tree, but about an hour later I heard grunting. Within a few minutes a nice 8 came through about 60 yards out grunting and in quite a hurry. He was heading straight into the wind so I imagine he was on a doe's trail. He wasn't a huge deer, but much larger than last year's buck (nearly twice prob a little over 100"). I would have taken him given the chance but he never circled back. Idiot me forgot my call in the truck so I had nothing to try to coax him over either. I had several doe within range but being Sunday night, I chose to let them walk. Just a matter of time now fellas - rut is starting to kick. Man is that cool watching a buck all nuts like that.

RE: Official Team Elite (8) Thread

Dang it Badbob, thats what my problem is and thats trying to focus. I get side tracked so easy due to what I want to pursue. Seems like deer, elk, and trophy rainbow fishing all come together at the same time, and then an ocassional prarie chicken gets in the way, hell, I wish I could clone myself and not to mention having to get firewood in the afternoons while hunting. Its just a helleva office to play in.;)
I been encountering mulies and whitetail on the mountain here, but just not no quality. Legs are kinda rubbery from going up and down in mountain goat country. Some areas where I'm at I kinda wonder how to get a nice critter out but the temps are dropping and snow is in the forcast so it will make bringing a critter out a lot easier solo. I'll be hunting till the end of nov and like to think I can put a good quality buck on the board by then, as the peak of the rut kicks in at the end of nov.
Good luck guys.

Bobby

Well I think I might buy a local license this week here. I might have to go after a few of the nice ones that are suppose to be around. I saw one a few weeks ago. I wouldn't want to shoot him because it's the first real pretty one I've seen since moving here. My neighbor said he did see a monster on the corner of my lot. We'll see. I will probably just shoot a bunch of little ones just to save my landscaping and get warmed up this year.

On the funny bad news front, the dang wife washed my wallet. All my credit cards and stuff survived but my expensive Md license is gone. I'll have to call and find out how I can get it replaced if I don't find it this weekend.

Good luck ya'll! The fun season is almost upon us!
