Taking my nephew tomorrow morning. Suppose to be cold and windy.[:@] Went mushroom hunting today but none found. My friends in kansas have found forty or fifty. I'm leaving for KS tues night,
opening morning wed. Supposed to be cold and windy[:@]
I've seen a lot of birds struttin, appear to be henned up good right now.
If you run into henned up birds, your best tool is a struttin tom decoy. If you don't want to shell out the$$ for one, you can take an old turkey fan from a previous kill and mount it on a stake or an old arrow. I've used just a turkey fan before with lots of success. Plus its a lot easier to pack than the big decoys.

My brother found 47 mushrooms today, so I'm going tomorrow. When I left to go to my moms and grandparents today I saw the biggest turkey of my life. Well, one with the longest beard anyway. Right in the field of my cousins who live less then a mile from me. The sameplace I killed the big buck for this years bow contest. It had just crossed the dirt road and was 5yrds off the bank standing there. His beard was super thick, and came off his chest and had a weird kink-hook to it that gave it an extra inch atleast before curling down and dragging the ground. Probaly 12" beard straight if I had to guess. Just like my grandpa's beard from last year except it was way fuller. My cousin had told me about a big bird there the past few weeks but he don't turkey hunt so I didn't figure he knew. But where todays bird was is just across a ridge from the right-of-way that my grandpa took his big bird. So it's all in the same area, and it was awesome to see that big bird. I still have to wait till April 27, but goodluck tomorrow guys. I hope you guys get us on the board.
Tomorrow I'm going to put my trail camera out just for fun like a buddy of mine does and hopefully I'll have some cool pics for you guys. I'm also going to see how many mushrooms I can find before the easter squal hits Monday afternoon. Damn two day cold front blowing in with the high Monday being early in the morning at 51 before falling off to the low 40's, then freezing over night, and the high Tuesday at 41 and again freezing over night, then it warms back up to 50 on wenesday and back into the 60's from there. Damn weather.
But again, goodluck and knock'em down!

So I don't guess anyone scored over the weekend. Yesterday I saw a strutter with 10-12 hens and 2-3 jakes in a field. He even gave me a gobble when I turned the truck back on the exhaust rumbled. We are having our Easter squall right now though as it's raining and 44 degrees...tomorrow supposed to be a high of 40 with sleet/rain and maybe snow. Blah that sucks, but then it starts warming back up Wenesday through the weekend.
Didn't find any mushrooms yesterday morning, but did find a mess of ramps.

My nephew missed one @ 30yrds. We had a shootin stick for him but he had to move around a tree. He's just not big enough to aim that shotgun own his own. Boy he sure got excited after that though. I'm leaving for Kansas tonight, be back sunday. Wish me luck!

Thats a small mess of mushrooms there. Good find for sure, it was cold last night, and will be cold again tonight. Back around 53 degrees tomorrow. But one last cold snap around 35 before staying up in the 40's overnight again.
This evening I ordered some work stuff from Cabelas, including new boots and wolverine jeans on sale. And besides getting a hooded adidas shirt for the wife, I got a Knight and Hale Long Spur box call. Had a 5 out of 5 rating, and seemed like a really nice call. I'll let you know Friday or Monday when it gets here. I am dying for our season to start, it's been like pulling teeth waiting on the end of the month...but the weekend should be nice cause I'm going to make a trip to Cabela's in Wheeling! Whooooooo hoooo! LOL. Won't be my first time up there, but I sure get excited to go and look at all the mounts, live trout, whitetail muesem, and looking at new gear. Its just a trip to go look at everything even if you don't buy nothing.
