Got my camera 2 weeks ago (Panasonic PV-DV950 with the 3CCD), got my camera arm yesterday (Hunter Cam Cradle...ouch those are $$$) Now all I need is a mic....and practice!!!
If you haven't already, look into a remote lanc as well. It will help you to me more steady and stealthy when operating the camera, especially for manual focus. I like the Bogen 521 remote lanc, but any would be better than none.
Excellent advice! I forget about it cause I nearly consder it a part of my camera. It makes mounted filming a thousand times easier!

Only problem is for Panasonic an LANC controller isn't an option as they do not have a LANC port....................the pro-sumer models use a remote controller , but the only functions are start/stop rec. and zoom in/out, no focus control or iris functions............

OOOooppppppsssss............I lied, I also need video editing software, I am leaning towards either Adobe 2.0 premiere, or Pinnacle Studio 11......what do you guys think between the two choices?
Pinnacle now has released studio 12, definately less expensive than Adobe, but also more limited................However I have been using studio for over a year and the only limitations I have run across are motion graphics, but with a little creativity that can be over come.
That said if I were just starting and looking to find the best compromise between cost and features and easy of use, I would look at the Sony Vegas pro software.
