Save up for a Arctic Cat 500
Why?
Well..

Front and Rear Lockers
Winch
High and Low range transfer case
On the fly 4wd
$6500

Or you could save even more and buy the big dawg.
A Polaris V-Twin 800 4x4 hehehe

honda 400ex. super reliable. rock solid engine. not the fastest, not the slowest either, and definatly a reliable machine. i have one and so do a couple of my friends and they r great. we run them in tight woods trails, some times racing, some mud, tons of hills, some times sand dunes. and they are pretty cheap used. 3,000 - 3,500 will get you a really good one with aftermarket mods.

Well, I'd have to say, I LOVE my Grizz This baby goes 70+ and goes thru a mud hole like you wouldn't believe!!! Ofcourse, it is a bit big for regular trail riding.. I'd like something a bit smaller, but I still love it!!! (sorry it is a bit big.. lol)
