well................ok
i think that in this situation it is wrong becasue you are lying to the state of ohio. but i dont think its an act of poaching though.......
also i feel that if you hunt your OWN land; i think you have every right to shoot the season bag limit using a slug gun or bow or any other gun (as long as not an automatic) on your OWN land becasue you want the meat or whatever,. you would proces it yourself and eat it.
i think this is fine and i know some people that do this
but its just my opinion
opinion yes...that is an opinion...i almost look at it the same way...but the facts are that the law states that taking ANY deer without a tag in your name is considered poaching under the law.

its this second bolded part that i really disagree with you! they have thee laws structured that way based upon population, wood density and HUNDEREDS of other factors, to keep other hunters/people walking there dogs or drivng there cars from getting hit with a stray bullet that squeecked thru the woods and killed someone! that was figured out by someone ALOT smarter than you and me

ok i dont want to argue with you but............ the part i bolded isnt really true. they have gun season and you can hunt yotes here in ohio with any gun you like a 30/30 30.06 .22 .223 .243 whatever you want so i dont think they are worried about people dtying from stray bullets but your point is good

I agree, poaching to me. Although party hunting is legal where I am, the person with the tag must be within 5 km's and you must be able to contact them at any given time. Contact can be as simple as a whistle signal or a walkie-talkie/cell phone.
Thats the point i am trying to make. If the state laws allow party hunting, and the owner of the tag is out there with the kid, then it is perfectly legal and ethical, but if the owner of the tag is not with him, or the state does not allow party huntign, then this situation is illegal and enethical.

Guys calm down, quit getting in a cat fight over this. Sky, i can see where one deer in your case may make a huge difference, but in many states it is one of thousands, so not as big a deal. Its like with me and turkey hunting, in most states your only allowed one turkey and many people dont get their one, but in my state i am allowed three, and seldomly get less then that, for our turkey population is gigantic, well others is small, so in CA shooting more turkeys then three, well illegal, is not going to hurt the population, but may help it in fact...

I'd be surprised if it wasn't clearly written in the regs about party hunting. Check those, and if you don't get your answer there, make a call to the conservation department.

I'm pretty sure party hunt means to use a tag different from your own, as long as they were with you.

um what?

Poaching is poaching my friend. There is no "Bending" The law, you either break it or you don't.

And if you choose to do so, then your are nothing short of pond scum in my book.
Read these two posts for me, if you will... In one area, party hunting is illegal no matter what: poaching; and the person who lives in that area frowns down upon party hunting with a passion.

Look at the other persons area... party hunting is legal, with some restrictions. And by the tone of his post, it doesn't really look like he frowns upon it.

This is another situation of "ethically" vs. "legally." Something can be perfectly fine in one place in the US, but the second you leave that area and head to another, all of the sudden that exact same thing is totally illegal and morally wrong. [:-]
