ummmmm.....i posted in this thread 3 times, all lengthy and informative posts! but wont allow me to post them for some reason so i give up in this thread! i just want to say its kinda sad that somany people think they CANT live without a cell phone! you dont even need a home phone, its a convinence to you, not a life suport! you NEED your heart to live not a phone!
you want it you buy it, thats the aproach my mom had on me and i hated her for it. now im in college, and thank her for it everyday, casue i am so much better off than every fool here who had everything bought for them and had no concept of money. they are all now in huge debts, and owe money on there educational loans!

You don't need a cell phone. No one needs a cell phone. You want one. Be honest. And that statement has to be the whinest one I've heard in a long time. This is exactly whats wrong with this generation, you aren't willing to do anything for yourselves. Its not a parent's job to get you a cell phone or a vehicle, they did their job, they kept you alive and thriving, thats their only obligation to you. They also don't have to pay for your college, so think about that for the future. You're 15? Get a job. Show them that you're a responsible teenager and can take care of yourself without whining about everything you don't have. Then maybe they'll cut you some slack and be willing to meet you halfway.
There are hundreds of thousands of kids in this country who don't have cell phones, and won't have one until they buy it themselves, or a truck. In fact, its hard to believe, but people survived for millions of yearsWITHOUT cell phones, and they actually had social lives! In this day in age, elaborate and tell me exactly WHY you need a truck. Is it because you have a lot of stuff to haul? Feed, grain, hay, etc? Or because you just want a pick-up because everyone else has one and it'll make you more "country"? IE, the same reason you want the cell phone (nix the country). Are you prepared to pay at the pump? YOUR money, not your parent's hard-earned cash thats keeping a roof over your head and food on your table.
Get a job, get it yourself and stop complaining. You're already luckier than a lot of kids thats for sure. Some perspective is what you need.

get one of those track phones man. that way it has nothin to do w/ your parents and them paying your bill if you slack off. when you run out of minutes no more ph. that might prove that your capable of handlinga monthly bill on your own. i never had a cell ph when i was 15. i thought they were for yuppies

My Mom has one of those Trac Phones. She really likes it except the service expires so you have to buy another minute card even though your not out of minutes. But for emergency purposes and some light talking/txting it gets the job done.

Well, what would be worse?
Having parents who...
Let you own arifle but not a cell phone.
or...
Let you own a cell phone but not a rifle. (I suspect far more teens fall into this category.)
I dunno, if they don't have cell phones, it's kind of a hard argument to make them shell out that extra cash and monthly expense just so you can crash your car while texting with your buddies next year.
If they do have cell phones, maybe they're tight on the monthly minutesand are afraid you'll somehow cause them to max that out. You might want to ask...and maybe find out what specifically their objections are. Then you can begin to ask how to properly go about addressing their real concerns.
I got a cell phone... unfortunately. Ya know it rings like at least 2 or 3 times a week. [:@] Then I have to answer it... and talk to people. If only there was some lasting benefit of other adults thinking it was cool to have one.
