Default "Titles of people"

Ok I dont understand this. If you are white and you live in America you are "titled" as an American. But if your black and live in America you are titled as an African American. If you are Mexican and you live in America you are titled as a Mexican American.

Our country is against racism and in my eyes it seems to me that they are segregrating (sp) everyone into sub-catagories by there race.

If we have all these catagories why dont we call the white people European Americans.

I think we all black, white, or tan and you live in america you should be called an American.

What is your veiws on this topic???? I have allways had a deep corner in my mind about this topic.

I agree that by giving people certain names such as African American, Mexican or Hispanic American just further seperates "Americans" from each other. We're all simply American. Half of the black or mexican people in this country have never visited Africa or Mexico, so why call them that?

My mind belongs to my work...
My heart belongs to my family...

But my soul...belongs to the woods.

I would think they are just using the 'title' of a certain race in terms of place of orgin is all. I do agree thought i think sometimes it can appear to be as a 'racist' term but it really depends on who is saying it and how. Just my 2 cents...BTW BRD: Haven't seen you around lately, you getting ready for quail season? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I think Americans should be people and their family that have lived here in the USA within the last 50 years. After 1950 to now, to many imigrants are coming over.

i think that an american is someone who is not ashamed of who they are, who never dreams of being something more, who isnt afraid of telling people what they think, who feels small when they think of the world, who knows that there are people in every country who is just like them, who doesn't judge based on background/ color/ race, but judges on what kind of a person they are, who works hard for their family and teaches them that common sense will sometimes get you further than being the smartest person on earth, a person who stands up for what they believe, even if they are standing alone.... that is my definition of an american
