I got a place I need to lime, but I can't get a truck to it to apply the lime. It's not very big maybe 1/4 acre at best. I just want to put turnips in it. What can I do to lime it. I think I've heard of pelitized lime if so what is it and is this something you can just throw out. I can get to it with my tractor and 6 wheeler.

I just applied lime to another 1/4 acre of a right of way. I can't get my 4wd F150 "out" if I drive it in ( this time of year is sloppy) so I shovel lime into two 5 gal buckets and put em' in a wheel barrel, haul em' about 150 yards and spread the lime by the bucket full. I just did this to the tune of 1510 lbs of lime. I take my time, in a few hours its done. It wouldn't take you that long using your four wheeler and a little garden trailer. Good exercise

See if a local farm supply store can make a bulk delivery. Then you can haul it to where it's needed.
If you have a sugar beet plant in your area I have another idea.

Get 40# bags from Lowes or Walmarts for 1.40 and spread it with a shovel. I have a 6 ft drop spreader that I use only for lime, works good, I am going to lawn my lawn this spring 1 acre, will buy the bags..

I made a double drop spreader with new spreader from Home Depot. They are cheaper then broad cast which I have also. The cost to make this lime/fertilizer spreader was less then $100.00 Cabelas over $200. I makes a 5' wide path of lime/fertilizer. I make a lot of my own equipment. The gang disc for a four wheeler Cabelas over $500 mine under $150 and it has more features.

If you have an ATV you can buy the pelletized lime and use a spreader.It's more expensive but alot easier to apply.

Hey wild work,,,I would like to make a spreader of my own,,the ones that you buy are so cheaply made. I would like to put some kind of spread beater on mine,so that I can get a wider swat. How did you make yours ????

I just came from Lowes 40# fertilizer was $4.42 at New Years is now $5.97 Lime was $1.40 is now $1.65 pelletized is $2.77, better get it guys it's going up all the time it is getting Bush"whacked" because of fuel prices...
