Psandu,
What a sweet planter! What make is it? Looks like your depth control is by your 3 point lift setting only? I like the simplicity; no marker arms, no auto lifters, no fertilizer bins...none of the moving stuff that seems to cause problems and expense on older planters. $75 was a big time bargain.
Great pics of the sunflower progression. Did you aplly a pre-emergant weed control product? Looks really clean for first 4-6 weeks. Did you cultivate?
I don't suppose you have a picture of the sprayer you built do you.
I haven't seen boom sprayers used for sunflowers before, or do you grow other crops also?
thanks for the input

My sunflowers started dying off and turning brown around the end of August. The last picture was taken the first week of September. They were planted April 28th, and maturity was supposed to be 110 days.
I sprayed Treflan at 1.5 pts per acre preplant. In previous years, the planted field was overgrown with pigweed.
The planter is a Dearborn. The company was bought out by Ford in the early 50's, so my planter was made before then. Depth setting is by the top link of the 3pt hitch.
Here's a link to the sprayer. Each nozzle has a mesh filter, bigger than a 22 casing but smaller than a 38 spcl casing.
