I need help!! This year we prepared a acre 3 acre food plot, first round-up was applied and after about 10 days it was plowed. Disc and dragged and then planted. We used seed from NWTF which was I think a Strut and Rut mix. It looked good as it started, but since has turned into a weed field. I mean weeds!!! At this point should we brush hog it? I know a herbacide would help, but after the round-up, why and where did all the weed come from?

If the plot has never been a field or not recent, I think you are best killing it twice. Round-up the whole field, wait 2 weeks and kill it again. You will be surprised what weeds can make it through if the weeds were real thick. It also depends on how well it was cut to the ground before killing it. I had a similar experience and re-planted the plot. You may have some results by mowing it a couple times a year.
Also, you can spray weed and grass killer on the plot that won't hurt your plants (check label). Good luck.

Round up has no residual effect. once it dries, that it. It will only kill weeds it is sprayed on. And the weeds could have been in your seed mix. Or the seeds could have blown into your plot. You might want to have your local ag company come out and have a look. They could tell you exactly waht you need to use. Just my $.02

I think the problem was the plowing and discking after being Rounduped. You encouraged seeds still in the ground, especially if the field has been fallow for some time. It would be best to plow, disc and wait a couple weeks and then use the Roundup. Then plant, but disturb the soil as little as possible.
