Stand Placement on or near food plots
On large food plots, do you guys set your stand near them, where you won't scare the deer that are in the plots in the morning or afternoon when getting there or leaving....or do you set the stands in the plots or on the edge?

RE: Stand Placement on or near food plots
We make plots that are much smaller and about 1/8-1/2 acres to hunt over. We have killed many deer over the smaller "huning plots" especially if they are long and narrow and in odd shapes. On the bigger plots 1+ acres we see a lot of deer but it is much harder to get them in range. Especially, when bow hunting which is what we primarily do. We also do a lot of hunting about 100- 300 yards off large food plots. Generally, it depends on the time of day and what weather conditions we are facing where and how we hunt we hunt. TGK

RE: Stand Placement on or near food plots
We have found that the older deer usually do not use the plots early in the day during the hunting season/rut. We have found that you need to find the stageing area and post your blind 10-20 yds past that point.
We suggest, and have many clients that now agree, that you walk the perimeter of the plot as someone in an orange attire walks the inside of the plot. When walking the outside of the plot during the green up, mark the area with some tape about 10-20 yds past where the plot walker can be seen. Do the same thing when the leaves start falling and the same when all the leaves/green is gone. This will give you three rings of staging areas for the hunting season. This should be the area where you hunt as the older bucks are in the stageing area about 1/2 hr to 1 hour before real dark.
