quail release?

Default quail release?

I'm looking to better our quail population in southwest georgia. we have prime habitat, but low numbers of coveys. what is your opinion on releasing quail and the pros and cons? or any other ideas?

Pen raised quail have alow survival rate when released. You should focus on a continuous habitat
management program consisting of ground disturbance to increase forbs, cover for nesting, and
feeding. It also sound like you may have a predator problem.

If the quail population is not thriving there now, there's a reason for it. Try to find the issues that are keeping your native population from thriving. If you can address them, your native population will improve.

Releasing quail is almost an exercise in futility, anyway. The average life expectancy of a released quail is about three days, and if the native population isn't doing well in your area, released birds certainly won't.
