Bur Oaks are in the white oak family and as such, the acorns are as desireable as the true white oak. Deerwillgladly eatthe acorns of any oak tree. Howeveracorns in the white oak group have much less tannin in them than the red oak group and are preferred.

Are you looking to plant trees? If so you are looking at 20 years at least before you start seeing any kind of crop. I would find existing trees and release them (cut the competeting vegetation around them on at least three sides) and fertilize them.

i think you'll find a general consensus amongst whitetail biologists that whiteoaks are the preferred nut of choice by deer...the only problem is it takes approximately 40 years for them to produce a respectable crop

Dwarf Chinkapin oaks are a member of the white oak family, low in tannins, and produce acorns in I THINK around 3-5 years. Our landhas agood manyWhite oaks and others from the white oak family like the Swampchesnut oak (we got more of those than white oaks). The next most populated oaks around hereare the water oak and the pin oak, which are preferred after all of the bigger more hearty acorns have been wiped out. I'm gonna be huntin over three big ol' persimmon trees on opening weekend, forget the nuts!
