RE: corn price

Hold on to your hat! It is going up in a big way this year.
Here in SC we made no corn crop unless you had irrigation. My friends in NC, GA, VA are all in the same boat. Don't forget the floods around the MS River from up north to down south. No Corn there either.

I figure it will go back down in 2009. the reason for it shooting up this year was all the flooding.

I buy it straight from the silo at 35 dollars for a 55 gal. drum full- it works out to about 6.50-7.00 dollars for a 50 lb bag

Actually, the flooding had very little impact on the corn price. Strong international demand, plus

I am curious about the 66 lb unit of measurement. The standard unit of measurement for a bushel of shelled corn is 56 lbs, unless, of course, it is sold by some other measurement in your area.

WVSportsman,
The flooding has had very little to do with the increase in corn price. Strong international demand, the federal ethanol mandateand, of course, speculationare mostly what is responsible for thehigh price. I wouldn't look for much of a decline any time soon.

Not saying your not correct, but how do you know this for fact. Corn in our region only went up slowly do to ethanol demand and then the flooding hit and it rose 2 dollars in a week...I know most corn is going to ethanol, but the sharp rise in price, imho, is do to the flood damage and the loss of complete crops.. I realize that ethanol has increased prices (slowly), and most of the availible corn is now going to ethanol producers..During the sharp rise, the local news covered it and directly related the drumatic increase to the severe weather....if you can provide an article that states other wise, I will be more than happy to read it.
