Question for guys that plant OATS
Fellas my neighbor and I are putting in about 26 acres of oats in for the elk, anyway, I picked up 1000 lbs of oats/seed ( I am doing six acres) for right at 100.00
My neighbor got 2700 lbs for 279.00
Good Price?
Poor Price?
Average?
Personally after looking at all the retail "Buck forage oats" stuff like that I thought I got a hell of a deal on oat seed!
Let me hear it..

", we use buck forage oats and pay about $20 for a 40# bag so that would come to $500 for 1000#, you pay for the name i guess "
Tought so too, until i planted horse feed oats. Oh, they cameup just great and grew well: Theydid not winter nearly as well as the spike plot oats and buck forage oats. I have one big plot with both horse feed oats and buck forage oats(i ran out). The buck forage oats headed up well;the feed oats did not head at all.

We planted feed oats in our plot earlier this spring and they are doing great. The deer are going to them just like they would the plot spike oats we have planted in the past.

The deer ate both kinds of oats equallywell until January when the feed oats turned brown and somefroze out.

Yep, they work well for spring planting. Oats planted in the fall are an iffy thing inmuch of OK.
