I have the same situation only more acrage, I have some bare ground that is just aiking for a plot. My problem is that when the crops get harvested, they are gone and the field gets tilled under within a week or two. Therefor, no food. So I am, and would say yes it's worth it.
i would break his farm equip., just kidding. Not a bad thought though.
I have 70lbs of feed coming from a buddy that owes me.

For a hunting plot, Biologic Full Draw works pretty good. I've used it three years in a row and it works great. Plant it in late July, or early August. Ideally put it about 20 yards from your stand.

After the first frost the deer will start hitting it. After the first hard freeze they will really go after the rape in the mixture. For a quarter acre, with all the beans you will have around you, this might make for a nice alternative for the deer once the beans are off.

Your right with all the beans, that would be a nice alternative. i think i will plant in august when we get some more rain in the forecast.

I am up in Ludington, and due to the sand up here I had to add a Sh*t load of lime and fertilzer. But If I were you I would not plant 70-80 acres of the same food source. I would make your main plot be a hearty annual and then add in a few perinneals. We are planting 5 acres white clover, 5 alfalfa, and then some mixtures of winter greens, beans and corn. Good luck!
