BOAT WINCH ON A TREATED 4X4 LUMBER. WINCH IS ON LUMBER WITH 3IN LAG BOLTS. THE BLOCK IS ON THERE WITH 7IN LAG BOLTS. THE CABLE IS RUN THROUGH THE FIRST PULLEY DIRECTLY OVER THE WINCH. HELPS TO REDUCE PRESSURE ON THE BOAT WINCH ITSELF. I REMOVE THE WINCH HANDLE TO KEEP THIEVES AWAY AND I DRILL A SMALL HOLE TO INSERT A LOCK. JUST REMEMBER TO BRING THE HANDLE BACK WITH YOU TO FILL IT UP

AS YOU CAN SEE, I USE STEEL CABLE ACROSS TWO TREES. IF YOU USE TWO TREES THAT ARE TOO FAR APART YOU WILL RUN INTO PROBLEMS. THE STEEL CABLE WILL STRETCH AND CAUSE SLAG IN THE LINE. USUALLY 8-12 FT APART IS GOOD. THE LESS YOU USE IN CABLE, THE CHEAPER THE SET UP COST. I USE 1/4 IN CABLE AND UBOLTS. I PUT A SECOND PULLEY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CABLE DIRECTLY OVER THE FEEDER BARREL. THE BARREL IN THE PHOTO IS A MOULTRIE 30GAL HANGING FEEDER.

AND THE FINISHED PRODUCT! I HANG EVERYTHING WITH MY CLIMBING TREE STAND. AND IT IS VERY EASY, TRY TO BRING A PARTNER AND ALL THE TOOLS NEEDED. IF ANYONE NEEDS, THEY CAN PM ME AND I CAN GIVE MUCH BETTER DETAIL AND SOME OF THE HOW TO'S ALITTLE BETTER. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN YOU PUT THE BLOCK ON THE TREE, USE WRATCHET STRAPS TO HOLD IT DOWN WHILE YOU CRANK HARD ON THE LAG BOLTS. PUTTING THE LAG BOLTS IN THE TREE CAN WEAR YOU OUT QUICK. PRE DRILL FIRST. HOPE THIS WAS INFORMATIVE90% OF THE STUFF CAN BE BOUGHT AT LOWES/HOMEDEPOT, THE PULLEY WILL BE FOUND AT FEED SUPPLY STORE/ HARDWARE STORES ABOUT $7-8 A PIECE. BOAT WINCH AT WALMART FOR AROUND $25-30.YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN BARREL, WHICH I HAVE ON OTHER PLACES I HUNT, SAVES ALITTLE MONEY. ANY GOOD BRAND FEEDER UNIT. I LIKE MOULTRIE MAGNUMS (HOLDS TWO BATTERYS AND BIG MOTOR) CABLE AND SUPPLYS FOR IT $70 OR LESS DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOU USE.

A slightly cheaper method is to use a pulley like http://www.toolking.com/grip-on-tools_18095.aspx

It's a bear for one person with 300# of corn, but I usually have someone with me.

wvsportsman - i'm going to do exactly what you have drawn up. I bought the boat winch last year. Now if our temp could get above -15 I'd go out there and put everything together. thanks.

I LOOKED AT THE SITE, I DON'T THINK IT WILL WORK FOR ME, I USE ALL STEEL CABLE FOR EVERYTHING. REGULARROPE WOULDN'T MAKE IT ONE SEASON WITH THEANIMALS AROUND HERE. WHAT WOULD YOU TIE IT OFF TOO? I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT SET UP ON 50LB FEEDER THOUGH.

Tie it to a tree. I've never had a problem with creatures bothering the rope, and we do have bears.
