SEED DEPTH REQUIREMENT.....
OKAY, ANOTHER QUESTION FOR THE CLASS.
I'M GOING TO PLANT SOME BUCKWHEAT THIS WEEKEND, THE REQUIRED SEED DEPTH IS 1 TO 1 1/2 INCHES. HOW DO I MEET THIS REQUIREMENT. I'M GOING TO BROADCAST THE SEED. (DO I JUST DRAG IT AND HOPE FOR THE BEST????)

RE: SEED DEPTH REQUIREMENT.....
1-1/2" sounds deep to me for buckwheat.
Personally I'd be happy with 1/2". Soil to seed contact is the most important consideration. Drag something around if you dont have a set of disks. Then roll it flat or drive over it repeatedly to assure good soil firmness and seed to soil.

RE: SEED DEPTH REQUIREMENT.....
If you disk it first to create a rough surface, then broadcast the seed and lastly drag a set of chains, bedsprings, etc. over the surface the seedling should work out OK.

Make sure you have a nice, uniform seedbed. You don't want a lot of big clods. When the seed germinates, any roots that hit large pockets of air will die.
