JERSEY FOOD PLOTS

RE: JERSEY FOOD PLOTS
Where are you planting?......I'm right down the road from you.
I've planted 2 acres of RRsoybeans that seem to be doing pretty well... but I've really kept up on them. I used pre-immergence weed spray along with 350 lbs to the acreof 10-10-10 to start them off. I just weed sprayed again with round up, waited a week and hit them with another dose 10-10-10(350 lbs to the acre). They look really lush now, but the groudhogs put a pretty good dent in them(as well, I put a pretty good dent in their population), and the bachelor groups of bucks have just started to show. So I could basically look forward to more damage.
If you wait until late September or Octobermaybe try a perrennial rye and clover mix. I did just that a couple of years ago and had deer all winter long in my field at all times of the day. They hit the newly germinated rye sprouts first giving the clover time to mature. Go and talk to the Turf Farm. They sell the stuff right there. They wouldalso be able to help with the sandy soil, or might have a better recommendation.
