Default Headless Deer

Does anyone know why I've been seing dead deer along the highway in Ill and Wi. missing just their heads? Saw this in Illinois last year, thinking it was Bucks and they were taking just the racks. But, just last week I saw roadkill deer with thier heads missing in northern Wisconsin. They had clean cuts, like a saw was used.

Wondering if this was being done by DNR or what?

I would say that is a good guess, the DNR might be doing some brain samples for CWD or somthing. there might be some weirdos out there that might like deer heads.

I would think that the DNR would take the whole deer. Maybe not, but my guess would be people taking the heads for the velvet racks.

Wisconsin's DNR takes the heads for CWD testing!

I know around here that every single deer you find without a head on the side of the road are bucks. My cousins house is right next to I-71 and there are about 20 deer hit along its stretch by his house during season every year and all the bucks heads are missing. Weve found some really big bodies a couple times that would be well over 200 lbs.

My Guess would be The DNR or the person who hit it.

We would hope that DNR would have some guide-lines they would have to follow about the proper disposal of a dead animal carcus.
Maybe someone just wants to make headcheese or

DO you have a high Vietnamese population? They use velvet horns for soups and verility? I worked with one that wanted to stop at every one. He said, "Good for tac tac, strong like bull!"
More than likely, DNR

I dont think the DNR would just leave the deer body laying on the road, not exactly a good PR move.
