Fisrst of all. Where in SC are all of ya'll from?Right now, I live in Williamsburg county.
And to answer your "open season" question. How more open do you want it? We get personal tags, state doe days, club tags, if you are a farmer you can also get a permit to kill them. Don't get me wrong...i agree 100% that our buck to doe ratio is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY out of control. It has almost gotten to the point to where I want to (legally) shoot every doe I see.

I am from Marlboro County.
And actually, you should care. And care a lot. Espically if you are trying to "trophy" manage your land.
Being from Dillon county, espically if you hunt on the Marlboro/Dillon line, Does are very over populated.
As for the antler restrictions. i am not really for them b/c I think a hunter should be able to take what he wants, but I am in favor of a heavily enforced buck limit. I think that we should try out a program like Maryland has. You get your first buck free. Then you have to kill two does to get to kill your next buck. (i think thats how it goes). that would really help out our doe problem.
One reason that its tied up with the whole Lower State VS upper state is that the upper state doesn't really dog hunt. The lower does. and i hate it say it, but until SC makes a decision about the whole issue, we are going to be stuck with bucks that never reach their potential.
will we ever have mid-western deer? NO! but we could have 140, 160, and maybe even 170 class bucks. Over the few years there have been several in the high 130's around my area.
Oh yeah....most of my hunting is done in Chesterfield county now...
