WHAT ARE YOU VIEWS ON HAVING AN OPEN SEASON ON DOES? THE BUCK TO DOE RATIOS ARE CRAZY IN MY AREA OF SC. THE DOES ARE TAKING O V E R!!!!

RE: D O E S
Don't know about open season, but I sure wouldn't mind TPWD upping our two doe limit to a half a dozen or better. More people are hunting does here, and it is helping, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

I certainly feel as if we (Illinois) has as close to an "open season" on Antlerless-Only deer as we could possibly need. NO LIMITS on archery Does, NO seasonsal limit, NO daily limit and tags are over-the-counter. Add to this the special early Youth Anlterless-Only season as well as the late season General Firearm Antlerless-Only hunt and we have a decent grip on the Doe situation. On the vast majority of tracts I hunt there is NOthreatof over population anytime in the near future!

We have something similar here, you can get bonus antlerless permits for $24 for the first and half off for each extra one. The number of BA you can kill varies by county, but with a bit of travel and capital you can take over 200 per year if you had the time.

Here in Mn in most areas your allowed 5 tags 1 buck and the rest antlerless, the problem is the population is so high we cant catch up,so many peopleshoot does and thenyour freezer is full and no one wants to shoot anymore we cant' get ahead. There is no management on bucks like earn a buck or anything so manyanterless deeraround if someone does see a buck there so excited they shoot it doesnt matter if it is 1.5. Literally if you are driveing round and scouting in th woods it seems like the buck to doe ratio is 1:10 or worse and the buck is most likely 1.5.

I don't think open season is the answer, maybe a longer season and more hunters would help a bit!

I'm from SC too and I heard the DNRwas considering putting a point restriction on bucks. Don't know if they were considering more doe days and or doe permitswith that or not. Wemostly just shoot does now to fill the freezer. They are mighty tasty.

Fisrst of all. Where in SC are all of ya'll from?Right now, I live in Williamsburg county.
And to answer your "open season" question. How more open do you want it? We get personal tags, state doe days, club tags, if you are a farmer you can also get a permit to kill them. Don't get me wrong...i agree 100% that our buck to doe ratio is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY out of control. It has almost gotten to the point to where I want to (legally) shoot every doe I see. |
