OK - We know Rob did well on his plot (congrats again!) I've seen a couple other colorful Fall plot pictures -

Now is the time to evaluate your plot(s) and see what you like and don't like about them when the season is in full swing. Now is when we adjust our tactics. How are the deer reacting (or not reacting) towards our plots.

I haven't been home to hunt hardly at all this fall - so this weekend I plant to take the camera - hunt hard, and evaluate my plots and their usefulness this fall. I'll post pictures next week on this thread.

This time of year the Wildlife managment forum gets very few looks - if you get a chance over the next few weeks - evaluate your plots - take pictures, and post them - tell us what you like and don't like about it!

I'll post mine next week.

My food plots arent doing well at all, the last few years it seems like they keep getting worse. The deer are eating them, but even inside my utilization cages, they are only about 4 inches tall, and and inch outside, and lots of bare spots. I planted labor day weekend, and have had lots of rain on them, but temps havent been as warm as normal this year. I think my main problem is not being able to get enough lime on my plots. My soil samples are terrible and the ground need work. Ill take some pics soon, and post them.

Good post!

This will help some of us out for next year. Those of us that "missed the boat" this year. I'm thinking: clover for the spring, oats/turnips for fall next year.

I planted a mixture of clover, alfalfa, and shot plot. I used a no-till seed drill, and left about a pound of the shot plot seeds out of the mixture. Boy did those turnips grow! The deer are hammering the clover, alfalfa, and the rape, but not so much of the turnips. I just hope they eat the bulbs because the tops got frost bitten badly. Here are a few pictures.

So, far they have barely touched mine! I planted 50/50 shot plot one one side and green patch plus on the other, then 90 % the green patch plus died due to lack of rain, so I reseeded that half with winter wheat. My brassicas are doing great, but the only thing I have seen eating them is rabbits. This was my first year planting brassicas and I was unaware about them needing several below-freezing days to sweeten. I probably wont plant them again in a hunting plot just because by the time they sweeten its already gun season, and I try to harvest my 3 deer in bow season. If they hit them hard late winter I would plant them in a different location to keep good food for the herd and possibly hunt over in December if I have to.

I have yet to see a single deer in my food plot, except at night on the deer cam. Just not good hunting right now.

I planted 2 foodplots at my Grandmas place and the deer are using them some but we had several unexpected people come down to hunt this year so I've only got to hunt them twice. I should spray em with Roundup since they just came in a took over the hunting the first week of bow season. [:@]

Oh, and I had a soil test done and spread a lot of lime and fertilized it too. I may plant some clover or alfalfa this spring there.

We waited till late to plant our plots this year. Last year we wasted about $3,000 planting early and hoping for the rain that didn't come. Thus far this year the plots look great although most of them aren't but 3 weeks old.

Don't have a plot, just some wheat fields, and they need a rain. There's a little growth trying to come up, and the deer have been hitting it regularly. I haven't been out much to see the deer, but I'm seeing tracks all over the place.
