Default Fall planting?

I am in central Pa. and would like to plant something this fall for deer and possibly turkey. One plot is along a creek and gets some shade in the morning and afternoon, the other is a field withmostly sun.I have soil samples being tested as we type.

I intend to plant whitetail clover in the field in the spring.
what shall I try???

Are you planting for only the fall season, or do you want a perrenial? If an annual I would go with brassicas, oats, or rye. The later two will give the turkeys something to feed on in the spring after they seed. If a perrenial I would stick with clover and chickory.

I would like a perrenial for the field but do not know if it is worth planting this fall.
In the creek bottom I may go with an annual. I know I can plant this now.

In PA - if you plan to plant the plot again in the spring - a semi-hardy oats is a good annual - like Buck forage oats - because it will grow quick and be hardy enough to handle some strong frosts - but most will die back before spring if you want to disk it up for clover.

Rye and winter wheat are good - but you might have to spray or plow it under next spring (not to big a problem to do)

An immediate draw tkycaller is Buckwheat...I just planted 50lbs and it's been a week, I understand deer pound it. It'll make a nice cover so you can lime this winter and then plant in the spring.

You've got to plant now for a fall planting - Its more of a Late summer planting - for Fall use.

Get going -
