RE: Albino Deer?

Albinos are caused by a recessive gene, meaning both the mother and the father must have this recessive trait to pass it on.

Albinos have no pigment, so no coloring in the eyes, nose, coat, etc.

I don't recall the extacts on piebalds, but have seen pics of neat ones.

In Evansville, IN there was an albino doe running around on the golf course right next to that sanctuary in town (200 acres). Saw another albino in the southern part of the Hoosier national forest.

As a note, albino humans have a hard time with daylight due to the pigment problems, they burn easier and the sun will bother their eyes. I learned this from a friend who worked for a rich banker who also suffered from this condition. So I wonder if albino deer have the same problem with daylight and are more comfortable at night?

RE: Albino Deer?

I have only seen one albino deer in the wild. It was a yearling albino. I was so excited and it was really a great experience.
