I hunt in a club that if the deer makes it to you and is running or moving and you shot it it is yours. In this case of the deer being down, I would sahot it to kill it and give it to the person that shot it.

I would shoot it and when the guy or gal came looking for it I would tell him or her about the wounded one that looked just like this one that kept running! LOL! Just kidding! Kill it and let the other guy have it! Then go get my own!

Finish the animal off. More than likely, the hunter who shot it knew that it was a bad shot. Wait for the hunter and let the person know the outcome. They should be thankful that they found it and didn't have to track a gut shot deer. I believe the problem would be if you tried to claim it as your own.

On a more serious note, I would put the animal down. I would then holler at the other hunter to let them know that their animal was down. I know that if another hunter did this for me and allowed me to take the animal I would be greatly appreciative.

There may a few priorities here, buy the #1 is to the animal. We owe it to the deer to put it down as quickly as possible.
There is no other alternative.
If you want to tag it, fine. If you want to try to give it to the hunter that initially shot the deer, fine.
It should all be academic at that point!
