How Long would you shoot ?
I was just wondering what everybody's limit on shooting a muzzleloader. I have heard of people shooting them 200 yards, but I dont really know if I would try to use it. I am using a T/C Omega.

75yds tops......with my tc 50cal hawken flinter.....thats with a solid rest from the shooting sticks....and the deer is stopped...broadside....and in the open...i can blow up water jugs at 50-60yds every shot.....hitting a paper plate easy.....a deer at 75 is reasonable....maybe even 100....but open sights at 100 isnt me......scope that shot would be nothing......but i dont use open sightts all that much....so i limit myself....and know my limits......

RE: How Long would you shoot ?
I did a fair bit of 200 yards shooting this spring/summer with my 50 cal inline. As a result I felt confident in my abilities and took my longest shot to date harvesting a Mulie Doe at 171 LRF, the bullet was dead in the centre of both lungs. Now it was a perfect morning with no real wind, knew the distance, my ML's Trajectory & also placed my pack on a rock which made a solid rest. FYI, my load was 100 T7 loose pushing a 250 gr SST, which I put in lots of time shooting all distances this year. If these factors weren't accounted for I would have never taken the shot, previous my longest was 147 yards.
Like anything it takes time, practice and knowing yours and the ML abilities. I also should mentioned my ML is scoped, with open sights I never would have attempted a shot of this length in a ML.

This is with an open sight flintlock.. at 50 yards at the range I hit withing about a 6 inch radius of the center. This being said i'd definately try to keep my shots at 50 yards and under. Not sure what the "norm" on open sight flintlock accuracy is though..

I did a lot of 150 and 200 yd shooting this fall and 125 yds is about as far as I feel comfortable in hunting condisions ( no bench).

I have praticed and got my gun on at 100 yards and know what it does at 150.that is my max now.I did take a nice 6 pt. at 145 a couple yeards ago.
that is with a good rest and scope on my gun.it depends on you and your gun,how much you have praticed with it.it takes a lot of work on loads and bullet weight and so forth.
good luck on working it out.
