I'm on to a big ole buck, seen him 3 times,no shot.I bought a buck target tonight and I'd like to stand him out along this big boys rub line,he's using it daily.I'd like to stand it near his rubs and scrapes and rattle abit.I feel it's the only way I'm gonna trick him in the late of the season.I promise to check in here before I do it.He lives in a 20acre paradise, with tall pines and grass, and thickit, surrounded by corn already harvested. He's fooled me lots, knows I'm hunting him but I got 40days in this duel and I need an edge.Let me know how you guys would stop him.

the best way i know to get big ole smart bruisers like that living in little woodlots is driving him out....or catch him in the daylight during the rut....the thing about driving him out is you need other guys in there....which may lead to his death....but by someone elses shot....unless you got friends that are tagged out....or good friends that wont shoot "your buck" but will drive him to you for you.......little wood lots like that are my favorite spots to hunt late in the season...and doing drives is deadly if you can figure it all out and where to send the drivers and where to put your standers....chances are he wont use the fields....and will try to stay in the woods as long as possible.....ravines, gulleys, and funnels are likely paths he may take.....most of our spots have ravines they use to sneak out....we call them our "killing ditches"......works for us.....but we dont really care WHO gets the deer....we got tons of spots to drive out.....and lots of deer....we all WANT to get a deer...but if someone else does...good for them.....wait your turn...help the guy drag out....he turns into a "deer dog"..or driver...lol......we are pretty serious about driving deer......best way to get them in small pieces of land that are HARD to stand hunt...the deer KNOW you are there when you park your truck......and i know they hold bruisers.....most guys wont hunt them...and if they do the deer are too smart for them.....good luck...dont know anything about decoying deer or calling them....i either stand hunt or drive them.....or still hunt.....oh...that just might work for you.....get a nice damp or soft snow coverd day and still hunt through his bedroom...try to sneak in on him or softly bump him off his bed....go slow and stay on your toes ready to shoot.....just may work....good luck

What have you been doing for the first 40 days??? Where are you in terms of the rut cycle? If pre-rut or real early post rut then I would try rattling him, if rut is on then I would concentrate on the does b/c that is where his priorities lye! I know it is real tempting to hunt scrapes but often he will check these downwind so depending on the terrain you may never see him during the daylight freshening his scrapes and only educate him more if he picks you off. Rublines can be similar but if they happen to be along major trails or intersects of trails from bed to food then they might be worth a consideration for sure. If you know he is holding in a 20 acres parcel of bush, do you have his movements or deer in general patterned? Can you get in close to this area without spooking bedded deer? Are their any funnels that force deer to a certain area then let them disperse to various areas for food or bed? Personally when rut is on I like to worry about the does, secondly regardless of what stage of rut pay particular attention to transition & staging areas...as close to bed as possible will usually envoke the best results but be very aware of the wind and how it plays in perspective to their movements.
