Default RE: Should I or Shouldn't I?

What have you been doing for the first 40 days??? Where are you in terms of the rut cycle? If pre-rut or real early post rut then I would try rattling him, if rut is on then I would concentrate on the does b/c that is where his priorities lye! I know it is real tempting to hunt scrapes but often he will check these downwind so depending on the terrain you may never see him during the daylight freshening his scrapes and only educate him more if he picks you off. Rublines can be similar but if they happen to be along major trails or intersects of trails from bed to food then they might be worth a consideration for sure. If you know he is holding in a 20 acres parcel of bush, do you have his movements or deer in general patterned? Can you get in close to this area without spooking bedded deer? Are their any funnels that force deer to a certain area then let them disperse to various areas for food or bed? Personally when rut is on I like to worry about the does, secondly regardless of what stage of rut pay particular attention to transition & staging areas...as close to bed as possible will usually envoke the best results but be very aware of the wind and how it plays in perspective to their movements.
