Well, assuming their were both put into the lungs, they'll both do the trick, but the .30 calibers gonna have the advantage of course, with the bigger wound channel...equals more bleeding and all that good stuff.

I've killed more deer with my 243 than any other gun... 7mm included. I've dropped more deer in their tracks with the high velocity 243 than most people will kill in a lifetime.

RE: the 243 -vs- .30 cal rifles
Okay, I've attempted to stay fairly benign on these many threads comparing the .243 to the heavyweight calibers. I've also stated that I've dropped at least four bucks with a 6mm (including two Muley bruisers). I'm very fond of the 6mm for deer (and Antelope) but I no longer use it. But really guys, I challenge you to show up on a guided hunt for Elk, Moose, Bear, or Safari (Cape Buffalo for example) with a 6mm or .243...you'll be given a quick return ticket home.
The fact of the matter is the .243 will not compare to the larger calibers for sheer killing prowess, penetration, devastation and sensibility. It never could compare nor will it ever compare. If that were the case, the caliber would enjoy popularity for the really big game (which is doesn't). Is it big enough for deer..yep. Can the .243 drop deer dead...absolutely! Is it a fine caliber for deer...certainly.
Will a head-shot squirrel die just as instantaneousy from a .22 as a .270...yuppers.
Is the .243 so awesome a caliber that it can hope to hang with the heavyweights where supersized game animals are concerned...nope! Why not? Cause it ain't got enough ass! Stop trying to make such a ludicrous argument on the caliber's behalf by comparing it to the big stuff.
Next thing ya' know you'll have someone convinced they can pack their .243 to Africa for a Safari...I nominate you to guide them too!
Dangit, I meant to place this post in the other thread, I've lost track there's so many...sigh...

velocity?? the 243 is doing like 50fps more out of the muzzle from the chart im looking at...150gr 3006 and 100 gr 243 bullets.....but energy isnt even comparable....the 06 has almost 1000lbs more out of the muzzle.......sure the 243 works....and they both kill when put into the boiler room.....but the 30cal has alot more energy and mass....and will open up bigger and punch bigger better wound channels....but the 243 has killed mannnnnnnnny deer...it works.....but the 30cals will do the trick better id have to say.....

the 243 because of velocity or the 308 because of energy
