How long to wait
Whats the longest any of you have sat and waited on a deer before you got one or got up and moved ? The longest I can usually sit is about 3 hours but I'm still hesitant about moving because I know as soon as I do a bucks gonna take off running that I couldn't see. Does anybody else go through this?

RE: How long to wait
Thanksgiving Day I killed an 8 point with my Marlin 444. There is really no need to wait with that caliber. He ran less than 10 yards.
I have only had two deer run out of eye sight after the shot. But both times I immediately tracked him to where he laid and waited at a safe distance (20-30 yds). In my experience, a well placed shot means death for the deer before your regain your bearing about yourself. If you feel like you gut shot him, it may take a while. A gut shot deer will usually run downhill to a creek or swamp etc. so keep that in mind when tracking.

Hehe, sorry Coalminer. there is always something to be said for throughly reading a post before commiting!
Do you use a grunt call?
I grunt every 30 - 45 minutes and move around after a few hours. But if you prefer to hunt without the aid of calls etc. you are only limited by daylight
