Default My Girlfriends First Kansas Deer Kill (Pic)

Yesterday evening, I took my girlfriend out hunting. She has never shot a rifle in her life and unfortunately we didn't have time to practice before the hunt, but we did practice holding and looking through it. We've shot a lot of bluerock(about 80 shots herself) with shotguns, which she did fine, so I was confident she could hit a large non-movingtarget with her using my Rem. 700 VLS with Black-diamond scope and bipod, which made it nice and steady.

She had to barrow some of my orange and hunting clothes. During the whole hunt I was trying to teach and coach her on how things were to be done and done with safety, and she did well. One of my hunting spots has with a lot of nice bucks which always seem to stay right out of range of my bow so far.

So yesterday, we watched a group of deer out in the middle, and after a few minutes of watching one good buck, she had the one she wanted at about 150 yards. She pulled the trigger and my .308 target rifle dropped him. He is about 18-19" wide, with about 11-12" tines, 8 pt. frame with a kicker on the right burr, and a broken-kicker on the left G-2. It's not a monster but deffinately a nice deer for a first deer and first animal kill ever. I've never seen her so excited in her life, and she says she can't wait for January to go shoot a doe. She said she finally realized why I'm so hooked, and couldn't beleive the rush she had, with her heart pounding a hundred miles a minute. It was probably the best hunt of the year.

Okay, first of all, congratulations to you and to her on an excellent and beautiful animal, and secondly, she may have one under her belt, but ***ahem*** I would definitely advise taking her to the range to shoot that gun a little more!!!

She must be a natural if she took a shot at 150 yards with NEVER having shot a gun before... I um, well, just go to the range, it would be the wise thing to do...

I am in no way downplaying her kill, it's awesome and I am proud of her, quite honestly though, and I know you are proud of her, but I can't believe you actually posted that part of the story...

Still, congrats on the nice buck and good luck with gettin' him a girlfriend in January.

I agree, is wish we would've had time to go out and shoot the rifle, but unfortunately didn't. We've shot a lot of bluerock with shotguns, which she did fine, so I was confident with her using my Rem. 700 VLS with Black-diamond scope and bipod, which made it nice and steady.

Here is another pic of him

Okay, partially my bad, I read your post wrong, I thought she had never shot a gun before PERIOD... you said RIFLE. Still, get her out there practicing, you never know, it could have just been luck too, we all get some of that sometimes, ya know?

Again, congrats to her and like Cardeer said, I wish you guys a fun and long hunting career together, I hunt with my boyfriend also, and it is just as exciting when he shoots a deer as when I do and they are awesome memories to make together.

We were both jumping up and down in our stand when I dropped my 7 ptr this year, and of course the celebratory kiss is always a nice addition too

Here is the gun we were using. I put a lot of money and time into this guy. It's a Rem 700 VLS .308 topped with a Burris Black Diamond Scope with Ballistic Mill-Dot reticle(6-24 power). It's supported by a Harris pivot bipod. I turned down, and smoothed out the trigger myself, and free-floated the barrel. This deer was it's first kill, hopefully of many.
