Touchy subject, Browning --- if I had to pick I'd go with the 30.06, but there's several others that would qualify as well. There are a lot of good calibers, it's just a matter of preference.

There's no definative answer to that question. For versatility, availability of ammo and wide selection of guns chambered for them, calibers like 270 or 30-06 could have strong arguments built around them. The 308 caliber you are using however is as good as anything out there and will kill a whitetail at distances well beyond the point most people should attempt a shot. It's mostly a matter of preference though. Ford vs Chevy type deal. Anything from a 243 to a 45-70 will get'er'done in the right hands.

The best caliber for deer hunting..BAR NONE... is the one you already own, in an easily and cheaply obtained ammo choice, shoot Real Well! ...and between and including the calibers of .243 and .458. Does that narrow it down for you?
