dumb question

Default dumb question

can turkeys smell...as in do i need to use sent control like i do with deer?...thanks for your help

i wouldnt reccomend goin out in the woods smelling like a thanksgiving dinner.....Im not sure about the keenness of their smell but deffinatley worry about sight.

turkeys have a very poor sense of smell. They dont really associate danger to smells like deer do. It is there eyesight you have to watch out for. Even strange sounds dont spook them like deer. My husband as talked to them before and they didnt spook. As long as they dont see the threat they dont spook.

well...thats what i was thinking but i wanted to make sure...this will only be the 2nd year i have hunted turkey when the season starts march 15...thanks agian for all your help..i really value the advice of the people on here...

hey hunter norm where did you end up getting to hunt, i been seeing a few deer at skyline, and i never did hear back from you about bankhead, did you hunt much around there, just wonderin, i'd like to go to bankhead, or lamarion (sp)

I am sure glad they don't taste like chicken LoL

I have some hen in heat scent for sale if you are interested. Really, no you don't have to worry about scent if just turkies are present. However, turkies and deer like to hang together sometimes. If the deer spook it can alarm any turkies that are near. Just a thought.
