I can only assume the idea is based on being more camouflaged? Given that your wearing an orange hat and your wife is wearing orange as well this doesn't seem to matter. I'm sure most will agree that the orange isn't usually the issue, it's scent. I've had deer walk right by me in my big orange suit and didn't spook until they got my scent.
I'd err on the safety side myself. private land but that will be small consilation if a trespasser shoots you trying to poach a deer.

I can't belive someone asked this one,lol. You have to be kidding me??? Where a fur coat and run around, oh just for more fun, add a old coat rack on the ball cap. Always be on the safe side, if the law says one thing, take one more step. This way the both of you will come home, and not you on the roof on the 4x4.

If required it is a safety reg and would hazard a guess that tagging along with a hunter would also mean you must follow the regs fully as well.
Here if you are with a person hunting in rifle season, regardless of in the vehicle only you must adhere to the pertaining dress code.
