Default What a weekend

Sometimes the little things get me all spun up.

1. Took Friday off to scout and fix the roof on the tailer at the ranch.
2. Saw to nice bucks, 8 and 10pt. still in velvet.
3. shoot 3 pigs in 10 minutes using 2 shots.

The pig story. While driving to look at one of my favorite feeders I spot a group of young pigs 6/8 under the feeder at about 200 yards. I turn off the gator and start stalking towards them. Pigs sure are nice because when they are in a group they make lots of noise. I get to about 150yards and start to run out of good cover so now we get to crawl. Texas sure has lots of little sharp things while crawling around. I take another 10 minutes and get to about 40 yards and get to my knees. I am now hiding behind a pretty sparse bush. One little sow gives me a good broad side and she gets it, drops like a rock. First hunt with the newly adjusted trigger on my rem .270. Can't believe I hunted with it before, what a diff. The other ones look like they are doing a chinese fire drill but all head of towards a creek with out letting be get another one, damn. I walk over and yep she's done. I head back to the gator and figure why not drive to the other side of that creek and see if those guys are around. I make a drive and see a few Deer but no pigs. This all takes another 5 minutes. I then figure lets go load up dinner. Once again at 200 yards I get my first peek at the feeder and the hole group is back at the feeder lookin at there buddy. Damn. . . .Same drill again. This time I am a bit more patient and waited to 2 of them to stand next to each other. Sure enough after about 2 minutes 2 young sows signed up to be dinner too. Caught the front one just right and the second one a little far back, liver, so she went about 12 feet and dropped. Those .270 Hornady 130gr SST inerlocks work well.

Then when I get home the wife gives me the thumbs up to buy the new 14ft chair stand I have been wantin.

The 11 year olds baseball team soundly wins the first fall season game.

What could be better?

Next time just wait a about ten or fifteen minutes before moving. Pigs more often than not will come back in to feed once things calm down.

Sounds like you had fun, at least till you had to start skinning them!

What could be better? You asked.

How about a pig roast for the team?! A small "victory celebration" if you will.

Congrats to the boys and you, too!
