Of those four bullets you could close your eyes and pick one and it wouldn't matter at all because any of those four will certainly do the job. However, if i could only choose one i'd go with the 165grn Partition but i could be a little bias because i love Nosler Partitons!

Great picture! Where was it taken? Kind of looks like the west Texas hill country.

Based on muddydog's description, looks like you've got the spot in the right place.

muddydog Is Fireblade545's shot placement about right?

Firstshot you are exactly right on the location. That pic was taken at our ranch in Pontotoc , Tx .. if you dont know where that is its in western texas.

Well, that's good to hear! I'm new to 30-06 and really appreciate yours and everyone elses input. I've got plenty of time before opening day to finish my work up loads, and will probably just wind up picking which ever one is the most accurate in my gun. Right now, the 180grn Game Kings are going to be hard to beat.

So far, my gun seems to really like 180Grn bullets. Shot some 165 BT's in it and they didn't group very well. Can't wait to see if the 165 Partitions do any better. Do you think the 180grn Partitions would be too much for whitetail?

Well it sure looks like you've got them tied to a tree.....LOL Those are some mighty fine bucks.

That sure is some pretty country out your way. Got a friend that lives in Austin and another whose parents live on Canyon Lake. My brother & I have been on a couple of motorcycle trips down through that area. I've been to the Wurst Fest a couple of times in New Braunfels, been tubing down the Guadalupe, water skied on the Buchanan just east of you, had a few "root beers" along the boardwalk in San Antonio, and enjoied some of the music & night life in Austin.

If I wern't living in NW Arkansas, I'd be somewhere in the West Texas Hill Country!

For me personally yes any of the four you listed are way to much for whitetail around here in this part of NC i don't know about your area. I like using the lighter weight bullets in all my rifles and have always had great success doing so from close up work to ranges out past 300yds. Let me add the deer here don't get that big they average about 130-150lbs in this part of NC so if you kill one around here that weighs 200lbs then you've killed a monster. I use the 115gr Partitions in my 25.06 as well as my sons and they have proven to be pure deer poison for the deer around here and we've never lost a deer with that combination. When i take the 30.06 which i rarely use anymore for deer i use a Hornady 130gr Spire point and i've never lost a deer using that bullet either and have only had a couple that didn't fall right there when shot. The two that did run didn't go 10yds or so and were running dead. With any bullet shot placement is the key but sometimes it doesn't matter what you shoot them with they don't always fall on the spot. I honestly don't think you would have a problem at all anchoring a deer in his tracks with any of your choices. The Partition will serve you well if it shoots good out of your rifle but only testing will decide that. Which ever one is the most accurate out of your rifle is definately the one i'd opt for because shot placement along with a well constructed bullet is a lethal combination. As long as you do your part and put one in the engine room rest assured any of the bullets you've mentioned will do the job and do it well imo. Good luck.

Although the BAR 30-06 is a new gun and caliber for me, I've been practicing a lot with it this summer and am confident I can do my part as far as shot placement is concerned.

Here's a couple of 100 Yd 3 shot groups shot with the BAR.

...........Squares are 1/2".......................................Shoot-n-See target is 5 1/2"

Although this BT target is the smallest group, the BT's averaged a little over an inch. The Sierra GK's had the smallest overall average.

If the 180 Sierra ProHunters and the 165 Nosler Partitions shoot as well as these two, then I probally will have to get out a coin to flip.
