I've never had much luck hunting rub lines. By the time hunting season is in full swing here in eastern, NC just about every-other tree has been hit. I concentrate more on finding a hot scrape line and setting up on that. I guess it depends on what part of the country you are from but hunting rubs are basically useless here. If you are hunting where the deer are not as densley populated then hunting a rub line might produce something for you.

I have taken several large bucks off of rub lines. If you find a fresh rubline and follow it till it starts to enter a thicket that is probably his bedding area and set up. Most stageing areas are just littered with clusters of rubs, and sometimes have several rublines leaveing them. Seting up right in the stageing area is very produtive. One thing to keep in mind is that bucks will stop and rub trees all over the place, a few rubs in an apparent line do not make a rubline. Most of the rublines i hunt have lots of rubs along the same trails and are very distinct. The bucks come out of the bedding area very slowly like they really want to go somewhere but also want to be caustius, and seem to rub one tree after another as they wait for darkness.
