Try 100 pound bag of rock salt tilled into the soil.....deer will frequent the area for months to come...thats all we use...no blocks for us just rock salt.

I just toss the salt block out and leave it. The deer will dig the hole eventually. The more it rains on it the better and the hotter it is the more they come to it. I always put mine out in early spring, April at the latest, and by hunting season, the salt block is gone but the rain has washed it in the ground and the deer will eat dirt out of the hole for a good while. Putting it out now want hurt anything and if it gets hot, you'll see some activity.
