RE: hey everyone i am looking for a new rifle

For deer and black bears I'd take a remington model 700 mountain rifle in 30-06 or 7mm-08. It weighs 6 and a half pounds.
Good luck

For deer only i would choose a 25.06 but if you're going to go after bear too then i'd opt for the 30.06.

what about a ruger ultra light in wood in the 257 roberts? i could use the 270 for when i went out for bear and the 257 for deer

Killer243, a 260 would work well.You all ready have a 270 for bear .
the ruger altralight in 257 roberts would be another good choice for deer.
I just bought a ruger alweather in 260 and will be giving it a try this coming season.

I have taken several Black Bear with the 6.5X55 so the 260 should work well. You will have to reload it to get the most out of it. Factory loads are in short supply at least where I live. I am a big fan of the 260 as well. For Bear I load the old Hornady 160 grain round nose. The sectional density is out of sight.

definitally buy the Mod. 7 SS in .308. I own that exact rifle and its the best choice I ever made. I love it!!! The .308 is great for deer and has enough power for bears (even the beasts we have in PA)[i'm takin a guess thats where ur from] Plus its a short action for fast second shots and it has a short 20in barrel to swing easy. its still as accurate as you'll will ever need though. My only complaint on the rifle is the LOP ia a little short but i'm a little bigger than the average person. Just add a recoil pad to fix that. Yes the 7 SS has a hinged floor plate. Do yourself a favor and buy the rifle. you'll never regret it.

Killer243,

The perfect choice for you would be a Browning BLR in 358 Winchester. This is an extremely hard hitting round inside of 200 yds. It's trajectory would be great for these distances. And recoil isn't bad at all.

And since you want' something different, very few people hunt with one of these. You should be able to get one, new, from $500 to $600.

you have a 243 and 270 already, why get 260, 7mm-08, they are in the same class of calibers, and you already have that class covered. Go bigger, 7mm rem. mag, 280, 284, 30-06, these fall into another larger more powerful class of their own, yet below the magnums. Also look at the 673 remington, its small, quick, carbine, has a couple of really good calibers(350rem. mag, 300short ultra mag., )The older 600/660's are also really good guns, but are expensive.

Consider 6.5x55 Swedish - with the right bullet you can take anything from varmints to moose. Mild recoil, accurate. Winchester has rifles in this chambering.
