How long did it take you to tag your 1st deer?

My 5th season, age 17 was the charm. At that, I needed my buck to stand stock still at 25 yards while I missed him twice. My third shot broke his neck - my aim point was behind his shoulder. We had moved to MT from KS, no deer hunting to speak of in those days in KS, and I knew nothing about hunting. I then read everything I could get my hands on about hunting, and that was my first mistake. Paralysis by analysis set in, and I may have been the worst hunter in America.

A friend had talkied me into going hunting. The first weekend I sat in a stand with him to observe. The next weekend I sat alone and within an hour I had a doe a two fawns in front of me. I shot at the doe with my 20ga slug and thought I had missed since it ran away, and then shot at one of the fawns. Come to find out I had shot the doe through the lungs and missed the fawn(thank goodness). That was in 2002. Since then I have shot 3 more, a doe, spike(thought it was a doe), and a 2.5 year old buck that netted 127 6/8 and grossed 125 4/8. Now I am hooked for life!!!!!!!
