Me personally, I'd stick with either the 7mm mag or the 270. I personally don't see the big deal with the new WSM's. And unless you reload ammo selection will be very limited and more expensive in comparison to the other two. I also like to give a new cartridge a few years to see if its going to hang around before I plunk down anywhere from 500 to 700 on a rifle chambered for it. I know others will promise you by all that is holy that these new WSM's are here to stay forever and maybe they're right but a lot of my friends told me the same thing about the .264 magnum too when it first came out. How well I remember when it was going to be the next wonder cartridge. Go to your local sporting goods store now and check the availability those suckers. "IF" you can find a box they will cost about 30 or more dollars for 20. My friends have to mail order bullets for the .264 mags they purchased.

One question your handle includes a 270, do you own one already??? If so then go with either the 30 cal or the 7 rem mag. If not the 270 win would be adequate for the odd moose or elk hunt, as long as you use the right bullet and limit yourself to high % shots(both distance and angle) you'll be ok. The 7 rem mag will give you more selection, umf and distance. The 308 is great caliber wouldn't be my choice for elk but does work fine on Moose and is great for deer or yogi's! Of the ones you mentioned the 7 rm mag has the most range for both distance, bullet and critters. One must decide how many opportunties will arise for elk or moose? Is it going to happen soon or later? What is the terrain and shot selection going to be like? Recoil management may also be a factor(the 7 will boot the most as well)? Bullet selection only the 270 wsm has limitations in that department if buying off the shelf and even so federal has added the wsm to their offering this fall which will help emensely. I use the 7 rem mag but I also hunt the big stuff yearly(when the string and sticks doesn't work out for me![:@]) and deer hunting here offers many challenges where it is nice to have a bit more range and umf...boils down to weighing out all the plus/minuses of each and then buying what you really want!
Best of luck!

I've had several calibers over the years, and no doubt, hands down, I think the 7Mag can cover most anything in North America (not the best choice for grizz, I would presume). If you are looking for a rifle that will handle most of your big game hunting in the lower 48 and Canada, I would recommend this caliber.
