I have entered a few only not the deer calling.I have only seen the turkey
and owl calling.I would say practice,practice,practice.There are alot of good callers out there.Some win and go to the nationals.Try to master as many calls as you can like the putt or cluck,fly down cackle,hen yelp,assembly call,and the kee-kee.They usually let you have a callers choice at the end so try to master at least one call.It is alot of fun.Good Luck.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.....I won a turkey calling contest once...amatuer divison.
I carry that pretty little trophy all thorugh the woods with me and It don't seem to impress the turkeys much!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
