I just read the post about the Iams dog food and saw that the Humaine Society is a major anti organization. I had never really thought about it until now. My question is, I give a portion of my pay check to the United Way at work (they currently have no other charities available through work) and I never have really liked the United Way, but I figured they might help someone so what the hay. Anyway, one of the organizations they support is our local Humaine Society, does that mean that I've been supporting (unknowingly) an anti hunting organization? I think I've already answered my question, but someone else may be able to benefit also. Thanks- GB

We have contributed to the United Way for several years now too. Anytime we complete our contribution sheet, we have the ability to determine how our money is to be spent. If we contribute to our local "safety net", I don't know if that would be applied to anit-hunting efforts. Would it? This is news to me.
I'd like to know the answer to that too...

Iams is associated with the Humane Society of the United states. This is TOTALLY different than your local humane society. The HSUS is an ANIMAL RIGHTS organization that only spends 1% of its budget helping animals. 99% goes to its animal rights agenda. As far as your local humane society, I suspect that 99% of their budget goes to helping stray cats and dogs in your community. I see no problem with that. I am a veterinarian who would NEVER give to the HSUS, but I do a lot of community service through the local shelter. They have nothing to do with animal rights, only animal welfare of strays in this community.
Animal welfare is a good thing. Animal rights is what we are against.
