what would you rather shoot, a heavy deer, or something with a lot of bone on it's head? has to be one or the other. personally, i never figured out how to cook horns yet, i would rather take a heavy deer with a small rack versus a small-bodied deer with big antlers. BE NICE!

sorry bobby, not always true up here. dad shot nice big four point, weighed dressed 189. grandfather told me how twice he shot spike's, two years in a row, with horns too short, one by half an inch, the other by a quarter. both deer, dressed on scales came in over 200.

Those small spikes in my area would dress out at about 90 pounds. Bucks here with 8 points or better will almost never dress out under 115 and would typically be at least 130 (which is still small when compared to other areas). In other words, here in Maryland, antler size IS related to body size...

I put much more emphasis on taking a buck with high scoring antlers than a big bodied buck.A 300lb live weight buck is not too hard to find in my area but bucks scoring over 150 do present a real challenge.

Brother,If I see horns on the head, this deers getting it.I hunt on public land in 2 states,so no deer management here.To me a nice big fat rack is just an added bonus.I`d have to admit I`ve killed a couple nice bucks for being a meat hunter.

While I love the meat, I must admit I live for the bone...the body size doesn't even play into the equation until I have to load him
.
While I have seen some smaller framed(body) deer sporting large racks, it usually is a equal payoff for both antler and body size in my area.

VT BUCK...
I guess there is a certain something in getting a big rack..can't cook it I know but if two bucks are standing together and the smaller of body weight has a nicer rack thats the one I'm draggin!
See the bonus >>> lighter deer bigger rack! How far are you draggin that heavy spike? haha
